- Introduction
The United National Congress Party (UNC) is committed to protecting the privacy, integrity, and confidentiality of all personal information collected from its members, supporters, and affiliates.
THIS PRIVACY POLICY EXPLAINS how we collect, use, store, share, and protect personal data obtained through our digital platforms, membership forms, and other party processes in compliance with the Data Protection Act, 2019, and the Constitution of Kenya (2010).
- Scope
This policy applies to all personal data collected by the Party during;
- Membership registration (online and offline);
- Party recruitment drives;
- Event participation;
- Party nominations and elections;
- Communication and mobilization campaigns; and
- Any other lawful activity undertaken by the Party.
- Information We Collect
UNC may collect the following personal data for registration and organizational purposes:
- Full Name
- Email Address
- Gender
- Date of Birth and Age
- Phone Number
- National Identity (ID) Number or Passport Number
- County, Constituency, and Ward of residence
- Occupation (optional)
- Disability status (where voluntarily provided)
ALL DATA IS COLLECTED LAWFULLY AND FAIRLY, WITH THE DATA SUBJECT’S CONSENT.
- Purpose of Data Collection
The information collected shall be used strictly for lawful Party functions including:
- Registering and verifying Party membership with the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP);
- Facilitating internal elections, nominations, and democratic participation;
- Communicating Party programs, events, and campaigns;
- Ensuring compliance with gender, youth, and inclusion principles under Article 27 of the Constitution of Kenya;
- Enhancing accountability, transparency, and engagement between the Party and its members;
- Improving service delivery and digital interaction through the Party’s web and mobile platforms.
UNC SHALL NOT COLLECT, PROCESS, OR USE PERSONAL DATA FOR ANY PURPOSE OTHER THAN THOSE OUTLINED HEREIN.
- Data Protection Principles
UNC undertakes to process all personal data in accordance with the following principles;
- Lawfulness, Fairness, and Transparency – Personal data will be processed only for lawful Party functions and with the knowledge of the member.
- Purpose Limitation – Data will be used strictly for the purpose for which it was collected.
- Data Minimization – Only the necessary data required for Party operations will be collected.
- Accuracy – All records will be kept up-to-date and verified periodically.
- Storage Limitation – Personal data will not be retained longer than is necessary for its intended purpose.
- Integrity and Confidentiality – Data will be secured against unauthorized access, loss, destruction, or misuse.
- Accountability – The Party shall ensure compliance and take responsibility for all personal data in its custody.
- Data Retention and Storage.
- All personal data is securely stored in digital and physical formats under the supervision of the Secretary-General as the lawful data controller.
- Access is restricted to authorized officials and/or upon request, and security measures such as encryption, passwords, and access logs are maintained.
- Data will be retained for as long as membership is active or as required by law.
- Data Sharing and Disclosure
UNC shall not share or disclose any personal data with third parties except:
- With the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP), for lawful verification;
- With electoral bodies such as the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) where legally required;
- To service providers engaged under confidentiality agreements (e.g., IT or data management firms); or
- When required by a lawful court order.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WILL THE PARTY SELL, LEASE, OR COMMERCIALLY EXPLOIT MEMBER DATA WITHOUT CONSENT.
- Rights of Data members
Each member has the right to:
- Access their personal data held by the Party;
- Request correction or deletion of inaccurate data;
- Withdraw consent to data processing;
- Lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) for violations;
- Receive notification in case of data breach or unauthorized access.

- Data Security Measures
UNC applies both physical and digital safeguards including:
- Secure cloud storage and encryption protocols;

- Confidentiality undertakings for all Party officials handling data.

This Privacy Policy may be reviewed from time to time to align with legal or organizational changes. All updates shall be published on the Party’s website and communicated to members accordingly.
